Mohamed Salah became the Premier League’s all-time top goalscorer among non-British players last season, and he can break another incredible record as soon as this weekend.

Salah scored against Tottenham in April in the victory that sealed the Premier League title for Liverpool. It was a goal that saw him overtake Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero to become the highest foreign goalscorer in the competition’s history.

That is a record he has extended with two goals so far this season in the Premier League, as well as two assists in his five appearances so far.

And if Salah records just two more goal involvements, he will equal a stunning record currently held by Manchester United great Wayne Rooney.

Mohamed Salah needs just two more goals or assists to draw level with Wayne Rooney’s impressive record

Liverpool travel to Crystal Palace this weekend looking to maintain their 100 per cent record against the only other unbeaten side in the Premier League this season.

Salah goes into the game with 51 Premier League goal involvements since the start of last season, a huge 20 more than any other player.

In fact, he has 274 goal involvements in total in the Premier League (186 goals, 88 assists) which is just two off Rooney’s all-time record of 276 (183 goals, 93 assists).

So two more goal involvements will see him go level with Rooney, and three will earn Salah the title outright. Even if he doesn’t manage it at Selhurst Park, he will surely take the record outright in the coming weeks.

Salah scored 29 goals in the Premier League last season, 18 in 2023/24 and 19 the year before that. In fact, 18 is the lowest total he has managed in his eight seasons at Liverpool, topping 20 four times and even netting 32 in 2017/18.

If he gets 20 more league goals this season, he will draw level with Rooney on another record – 208 total goals and third in the all-time top scorers list.

And 25 total Premier League goals will see Salah equal Harry Kane’s record of 213 Premier League goals, second only to Alan Shearer.

With rumours growing that Kane could be tempted by a return to the Premier League to try and get closer to Shearer’s record of 260 goals, Salah has at least another season to catch Kane and make a dent in Shearer’s total.
