Liverpool youngster Liam Millar has been speaking about his hopes for next season, admitting that he wants to head out on loan to a Championship side.
Speaking to The Canadian Press, as relayed by TSN, the Canadian international made it clear he would like to play regular football in the Championship next term, highlighting how it could be the ‘perfect thing’ to help him become a future first-teamer at Liverpool.
“I’m aiming for the English Championship hopefully.
“It’s also one of the toughest leagues too because you have a game every three days. It’s back-to-back, back-to-back and I think it’s the perfect thing that can help me get to the Premier League and be ready for it.”
The 20-year-old had a marquee year at Liverpool this season. The attacker made his debut for Liverpool in a 1-0 win against Shrewsbury Town in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
That came after spending the first half of the season on loan at Scottish side Kilmarnock, where he played one goal in 20 appearances. That loan was cancelled in January after a change of management at the Scottish club.

The eight-cap international was previously praised by Neil Critchley, the former Liverpool under-23 manager, who took over as first-team boss at Blackpool in March.
As reported by the Liverpool Echo, Critchley called Millar a natural finisher after he hit a hat-trick for Liverpool’s youth-team shortly after his move from Fulham.
“You’ve seen what he’s capable of today, he’s a goalscorer. What I like about him is he can run down the side of defenders, he runs in behind, he gives them real problems with his movement and he’s a good finisher off both feet.
“We’ve been extremely pleased with him since he’s come in, he’s settled into the group straight away, it’s like he’s been here for years.
“He’s got a good brain, good awareness, very calm and can finish. He’s a good player, a good all-round player.”
Millar, of course, will have a tough task finding his way into the Liverpool first-team. The youngster, who turns 21 in September, will need to find his way past the likes of Rhian Brewster, Harry Wilson, and Divock Origi, nevermind Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino, and Sadio Mane before he plays first-team football for Liverpool regularly.
So a loan move away from Liverpool next season will no doubt be the best course of action for the Canadian. Whether or not he can find himself a team in the Championship remains to be seen.
