Liverpool would have sloppy seconds bragging rights if Everton secured Gianluigi Donnarumma transfer coup

Everton are reportedly keen on a player Liverpool had on their plan B list two years ago.

Everton are reportedly looking into a deal for AC Milan’s exceptionally talented young goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

The report claims that the Italian stopper could leave AC Milan this summer and Carlo Ancelotti wants to raid his old club for the talented £47 million-rated (Calciomercato) shot-stopper.

If Everton did get their man, they would be signing the player who Liverpool reportedly lined up as Alisson’s back-up option.

In July of 2018, it was looking increasingly likely that Liverpool were going to fail in their pursuit of number one goalkeeper target Alisson Becker. The Brazilian international was at Roma whose asking price was leaving Liverpool frustrated.

It was therefore suggested by Corriere dello Sport that Liverpool could turn their attention to the €60 million rated AC Milan talent.

However, it was immediately reported that there could be issues regarding Jurgen Klopp and the player’s agent Mino Raiola having a fractured relationship resultant of Mario Balotelli’s Anfield exit.

In the end, Liverpool were set on Alisson and eventually paid up, reportedly (BBC) agreeing a £66.8 million fee to bring the Brazilian to Anfield.

It is a deal that they have not lived to regret, with Alisson thriving on Merseyside and Everton will hope that Donnarumma could do the same if they secured a deal.

But Liverpool fans would always feel that Everton were picking up their sloppy seconds.
