Liverpool were so impressed by one player’s recent performance at UEFA Euro 2024 that Michael Edwards is now working on a deal to sign him.
The CEO of Football at Anfield is actually believed to be focused on bringing a Turkey international to Anfield – somebody Virgil van Dijk praised for his efforts.
So, who are Liverpool now trying to sign? Let’s take a look…
Liverpool working on deal to sign Baris Alper Yilmaz
A story from Milliyet in Turkey now claims that Liverpool are trying to sign Galatasaray No.53 Baris Alper Yilmaz after he shone against the Netherlands on Saturday.
The Turkey international gave Van Dijk a real headache as the Netherlands were forced to battle from 1-0 down to secure a passage into the semi-finals with a 2-1 win.
In fact, the Liverpool No.4 even picked Yilmaz out for praise after the game, with Milliyet quoting the Dutchman as saying: “We worked very hard but we got the result. Baris Alper Yilmaz was running constantly. He was elusive. It was difficult for every defender. He made it very hard for us. He couldn’t score a goal though. If we were to describe him in any way, he is a really important player.”
The Turkish news outlet believe Liverpool started to work on a deal to sign the 24-year-old almost immediately after the UEFA Euro 2024 clash between Turkey and the Netherlands.

Milliyet state that Galatasaray value Yilmaz at €30m (£25m) – and Manchester United are also keen, despite already agreeing a deal to sign Joshua Zirkzee.
Tottenham are also believed to be interested in signing Yilmaz – who scored seven goals and provided 12 assists in 55 appearances for Galatasaray across all competitions last season.
Michael Edwards could sign Arne Slot his own James Milner
James Milner proved himself as a highly effective utility option under Jurgen Klopp, with the Englishman’s versatility often helping the German out of a difficult situation.
The Yorkshireman played at left-back on 73 occasions under Klopp, and also made 34 appearances on the right of defence.
Now, Arne Slot could get his own utility man in Yilmaz, who is a quite unique footballer.

The man from Rize predominantly played on the right of attack last season, making 27 appearances in that area, but was also deployed on the left 12 times, and three games as a striker.

Yilmaz also made six appearances as a right-back and seven as a left-back, drawing comparisons to Gareth Bale, who started his career on the left of defence.
Therefore, the Turkey international would give Slot an option in several areas if Edwards can strike a deal with Galatasaray – be sure to keep an eye on this situation.
