Liverpool star Sadio Mane has responded to Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, after he suggested he goes to ground too easily.
Following City’s 2-1 win over Southampton last weekend, the Spaniard said: “Sometimes Mane is diving, sometimes he’s scoring goals in the last minute.”
Mane was the hero of the hour after striking deep into injury time for the Reds against Aston Villa, but saw yellow earlier in the match for simulation.
Guardiola has since tried to backtrack on his comments, but Mane has come out fighting ahead Sunday’s crunch game between the two sides.
He said (Liverpool Echo): “I think it’s a bit clever from him to get the attention of the referee but I will just play my football like I’m always doing. I don’t pay attention to what he’s saying because it’s part of football.
“If it could be a penalty for sure I will ‘dive’ again. If the dive will give me a penalty then I will do it to get it back! Why not? But what Jurgen said is correct. I do not dive.”
TBR’s view – Comments could fire up Mane
It seems Mane can see right through Guardiola’s mind games, and there’s a chance he could now make City pay at Anfield.
Guardiola has taken a risk to call Mane out, but perhaps it could have a subconscious effect on referee Michael Oliver.
With Mane in such excellent form though, Guardiola may have just lit the fire beneath the Senegal international.
