Liverpool will regret missing out on 'frightening' midfielder, would've cost just £8m - TBR View
Liverpool were reportedly keeping tabs on Michael Olise, one of the most highly rated young midfielders in English football.
However, Liverpool now look set to miss out on the Reading prodigy, and Jurgen Klopp could regret this.
The Athletic claims Crystal Palace are set to land Olise, having agreed a deal for the talented midfielder.
And the Eagles are apparently signing him for just £8m, Get Reading claiming they’ve activated a release clause.
This is an absolute bargain for a player of Olise’s calibre.
Who is Michael Olise?
Olise is a left-footed attacking midfielder who spent time at Chelsea and Manchester City as a youngster but came through the ranks at Reading.
He primarily features behind a striker but is equally capable operating from the right wing and cutting inside
A strong dribbler with an eye for a through-ball, Olise was the primary creator for his team last term.
He made 44 Championship appearances for the Royals last season, bagging seven goals and 12 assists.
His efforts saw him nominated for the EFL Young Player of the Season award.
While Olise may not have gone into Liverpool’s starting XI right away, he’d have surely been in and around the first team.
“Looks so good”
Reading legend Stephen Hunt waxed lyrical about the France youth international back in February.
Admittedly, he also suggested he’s still got some improvements to make, but given he’s a teenager, that goes without saying.
“Olise looks so good – when he’s on point he looks a million dollars,” Hunt told Get Reading.
“But when he’s off it, you want to shake him because he has so much ability.
“He was released by Chelsea I think so it’s time to grow up now and get a hold of his game.
“The ability he has is frightening – he’s better than Bobby Convey, Glenn Little, John Salako, Gilkesy… he’s got more ability than any of them.
“But has he got the brain and heart to go and prove over the next 15 years of his career?
“I apply pressure on him because he’s got the ability to do it.”
