Liverpool’s under-23 outfit suffered a shock 3-0 defeat to Wigan Athletic in the Premier League Cup last night.
The Reds were missing Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott who will seemingly be involved with the first-team on Sunday.
It was still a surprise defeat nonetheless, with the Latics operating in the division below Liverpool at under-23 level.
The game played at the Lancashire FA headquarters in Leyland was settled thanks to goals by Emeka Obi, Divin Baningime and Oliver Crankshaw.
It was a steep learning curve for the Reds youngsters who came down to earth with a bang after beating Southampton 5-0 on Monday night.
One player who did deserve credit was Ki-Jana Hoever.
Although Jurgen Klopp sees him as a centre-back in the future, he played exceptionally well at right-back last night.
He was solid at the back and energetic in bombing forward and will have been satisfied with his performance.
The teenager has made three first-team appearances to date and is widely regarded as a star of the future.
