Liverpool want Chelsea star on free transfer, Rio Ferdinand has called him 'amazing' - report
Liverpool have reportedly set their sights on Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger.
According to Eurosport, the Anfield outfit is one of several Premier League clubs looking at the Blues star.
Along with Liverpool, the likes of Manchester City and Tottenham are also eyeing Rudiger.
The 28-year-old has become a key part of the Chelsea line-up, helping his side win the Champions League last season.
However, he is in the final 12 months of his contract at Stamford Bridge and negotiations are yet to yield a breakthrough.
And according to Eurosport, Liverpool are keeping tabs on the situation with a view to a move.
Eurosport sources claim Rudiger is most likely to leave Chelsea, meaning they’ll have to source a replacement.
Although Liverpool are well-stocked at the back, the opportunity to snap up a quality player like Rudiger on a free transfer would be too good to pass up.
Rudiger has clocked up 161 competitive appearances for Chelsea and has also won the Europa League, FA Cup and UEFA Supercup at the Bridge.
Liverpool reportedly eyeing “top player”
Rio Ferdinand, a top defender in his playing days, was blown away by the Germany international back in March 2021.
“He’s someone who wasn’t really playing under Frank for whatever reason, but the intensity with which he’s playing at right now is what you need to be a top player.
“Whether he’s going to sustain that or what level you think he’s at, to play at the level he’s playing at the moment, he’s been amazing the last few weeks.
“And you can see there’s a desire in him, almost like he’s using the fuel of Frank’s regime not playing him and not trusting him as a method now to show people.
“You can see it, he’s screaming at players, he makes a block and he stands up and gets in the face of the attacker.
“I witnessed it and and I was like, ‘woah he’s on it’.
“He isn’t getting beaten by no one at the moment the way that he’s on and it and he’s concentrating.’
