After missing out on the World Cup this is very much a transitional period for Koeman and his charges.

In the Liverpool defender van Dijk, Koeman has arguably the best in world football right now.

The 27-year-old was once again in stunning form last night. He held firm in defence and notched at the other end in the closing stages.

Eyebrows were raised when Liverpool parted with £75 million to land van Dijk from Southampton in 2018 (BBC).

The £180k-a-week (Spotrac) central defender has proved to be worth every single penny, and will probably claim several solo accolades comes May.

After netting in the humbling of Belarus, Liverpool fans were quick to congratulate their star man.
