Liverpool were eventually drawn against Inter Milan in the Champions League knockout stages this afternoon, after a farcical draw finally concluded this afternoon.
It’s a return to the San Siro for Liverpool and their manager Jurgen Klopp, who only visited the iconic Italian stadium to see off AC Milan in the last week or two. Of course, the Reds won that fixture 2-1 and would happily take a similar effort against Inter.

However, Liverpool boss Klopp is acutely aware of the challenge ahead, despite the Reds winning all six of their group games this season. And speaking after learning of the draw, the German coach picked out three Inter stars who he has already got his eye on.
“Obviously Sanchez and Dzeko we know well – and Lautaro Martinez is one of the most exciting strikers in the world, probably. It’s a proper Champions League tie, so all good and I am absolutely looking forward to it,” Klopp told Liverpool’s official website.
Both Martinez and Dzeko have hit double figures already this season, with 10 and 11 respectively. Sanchez, meanwhile, continues to get back to his best and has notched just twice.
TBR’s View: Inter Milan A Tough But Winnable Tie For Liverpool
To be honest, Liverpool were probably the team nobody else wanted to play, so there is little for the Reds to fear with anyone really.
Klopp’s men are in such fine form that they’ll take some beating. In fact, there is a strong argument to be made to suggest this group of players are favourites for the entire competition. Of course, Inter have threats, like Klopp has pointed out here.
But on paper, and on form as well, Liverpool will fancy their chances of winning out against Inter. Especially, when the game will be played over two legs.
