Liverpool transfer: Reds reportedly eye move for 'phenomenal' 21-year-old striker
Liverpool are keen on adding Lille striker Jonathan David to their tanks before the transfer window closes.
According to reports in Canada from TSN, the Reds are keen to add the striker to their ranks should the French champions decide to sell.
The 21-year-old signed from Gent in August 2020 and has helped progress Lille into title-winners.
In 49 outings for the Ligue 1 outfit, he has scored 13 goals and registered five assists. He typically operates as a centre-forward and his all-action style has caught the eye.
Liverpool are desperately seeking attacking reinforcements this summer. Squad depth was a huge concern during 2020/21 and Jurgen Klopp will want to be better equipped next season.
The boss is keeping tabs on David and is monitoring the situation of the Lille performer.
David started as Lille defeated PSG in the French Super Cup last night, playing for 76 minutes before being withdrawn.
The player previously earned high praise from his former boss Hein Vanhaezebrouck. He told Het Nieuwsblad: “He is phenomenal. The best player in this country.”
Liverpool could make shrewd investment by signing David
The £38,000-a-week performer perhaps wouldn’t be the most overwhelming choice among the Liverpool fan base, although he does have a decent profile.
He certainly fits the criteria of a typical Reds addition, with Liverpool hoping to sign him ahead of his best years.
The Reds need to make sure they bolster their ranks and attacking players will definitely be the order of the day for Liverpool.
Other targets would perhaps catch the eye a little more but it seems unliekly that Liverpool will enter the market for a marquee signing this summer.
The challenge is to get closer to Manchester City and Manchester United. David could help the squad depth considerably and as a result, he could prove a useful addition.
