Liverpool transfer: Reds fans react as Atletico star is linked

According to AS, Saul Niguez has told Atletico Madrid that he wants to leave the La Liga champions. Liverpool are keen and their supporters have been reacting on Twitter.

The title-winning star is a Los Rojiblancos legend. He has made 337 appearances, scoring 43 goals and claiming 19 assists during his time at the club.

Now, it seems as though Diego Simeone is willing to let him leave. He does have a release clause of £128 million though and won’t come cheap to any potential suitor.

Niguez has five years left to run on his contract. As a result, Atletico are in a strong position, despite the player’s current desire to leave.

The central midfielder played 41 games during 2020/21. He often operated as a conventional midfielder, although he can play just ahead of the back four too.

At 26 he has bags of time on his side and could relish a move to the Premier League. Whilst he wouldn’t come cheap, he would represent a decent investment and come in as a potential long-term option in midfield.

Interestingly, it’s probably Liverpool where Niguez would fit in best of all. His style is not too dissimilar to that of Gini Wijnaldum and he’d be a sound replacement.

The Spain international earns in the region of £200,000-a-week at the Wanda Metropolitano. As a result, both clubs might need to pull out the stops financially to sign the 19-cap maestro.

Liverpool fans discuss Saul Niguez interest

Following news of this potential deal, it seems clear there are plenty of supporters who would welcome his arrival at Anfield.

Of course as with any rumour there are others who wouldn’t be quite so keen. But, on the whole, he’d be a popular addition to Jurgen Klopp’s ranks.

After being linked with Saul, supporters took to Twitter to discuss signing the Atletico Madrid man.

Here is what the fan base had to say as the rumour mill links another player with an Anfield switch.
