Liverpool continue to be linked with Karim Adeyemi ahead of the January transfer window.

The Reds have reportedly been eyeing the 19-year-old forward for at least a good two years now.

And with Adeyemi going from strength to strength, it’s unsurprising to see more speculation appear.

The Daily Mail reported two months ago that Liverpool are still “chasing” the Red Bull Salzburg.

And now, Fabrizio Romano has touched upon the Anfield outfit’s continued interest in the 18-goal striker.

Speaking on his personal YouTube channel, he mentioned how Liverpool have a “direct contact” with Adeyemi’s camp.

“They had a direct contact with Liverpool because they’ve been scouting Adeyemi for a long time,” he said.

“He’s the kind of striker – he’s fast, he’s scoring goals, he’s super-interesting for Jurgen Klopp’s kind of football.”

However, Romano’s “important update” on Adeyemi referred to a new frontrunner in the race – Borussia Dortmund.

“It’s important to clarify that, for Adeyemi, the race is not over,” began the journalist.

“But we have a strong frontrunner – Borussia Dortmund. They want to sign Adeyemi.”

As well as Liverpool, Inter Milan and Barcelona have reportedly had contacts with his camp.

“But from player-wise, the club he sees as a perfect step is Dortmund,” said Romano.

The Italian claims Adeyemi feels joining a Bundesliga club would be a natural next step from where he’s currently playing.

Erling Braut Haaland joined Dortmund from Salzburg.

In addition, Romano claims the German giants are “really close” to reaching agreement over personal terms.

They have made Adeyemi a very good proposal and will give him the chance to play as a starter, added Romano.

So, while the race is not over, Liverpool have a lot to do if they are to land Adeyemi from under BVB’s noses.
