Liverpool Transfer Latest June 2013

Liverpool’s extensive summer recruitment programme looks set to continue this summer, as Brendan Rodgers prepares his side for a top four challenge next season.

With Simon Mignolet, Iago Aspas, Luis Alberto Romero and Kolo Toure already arriving at Anfield on the 1st July, it is clear that negotiations are already in full swing.

Here is a look at other players that could be joining Liverpool this summer.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan – Shakhtar Donetsk

24-year-old, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, has been on Liverpool’s radar throughout the summer but the Reds have so far failed to wrap up a deal, due to the player’s ownership problems.

The player had gone AWOL from the Ukrainian club and didn’t report for the pre-season training in a bid to force through a transfer.

Shakhtar chief executive Sergei Palkin admitted that there have been offers in place for the youngster, but he won’t go for cheap. Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund were also interested in him and had lodged a bid in the region of £19.5million.

Eljero Elia – Werder Bremen

Liverpool have once again been linked with a move for Werder Bremen winger Eljero Elia.

The Reds were previously linked with the Dutch international in 2011, while playing for Hamburg.

He eventually signed for Juventus spending just one disastrous season, making only four league appearances.

Elia moved to Bremen for £5 million in July 2012 but his poor form and failure to find the net in the Bundesliga has meant he has been made available.

Kyriakos Papadopoulos – Schalke

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is battling to agree terms with Schalke for defender Kyriakos Papadopoulos.

The Reds’ boss is willing to pay £12m for his first-choice central defender Papadopoulos.

Arouna Kone – Wigan

Liverpool will look to hi-jack Roberto Martinez’s attempt to bring Arouna Kone with him from Wigan to Everton.

The Ivory Coast international has a £6.5 million release fee clause. The Reds are looking more likely to match this fee than their Merseyside rivals.

Gerard Deulofeu – Barcelona

Liverpool are facing a fight with Spanish club Valencia to sign Barcelona’s highly rated young winger Gerard Deulofeu.

The Reds have joined the race for Deulofeu, with manager Brendan Rodgers keen to augment his contingent of bright young Spanish stars.

Mamadou Sakho – PSG

Mamadou Sakho has revealed he has received an offer to leave PSG in the summer, confirming Liverpool and AC Milan’s interest in him.

Sakho, aged 23, was able to make 24 Ligue 1 appearances in PSG’s title-winning campaign but predominantly played second place to the experienced centre-back pairing of Thiago Silva and Alex at the Parc des Princes.

Victor Wanyama – Celtic

Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama has emerged as a transfer target for Premier League side Liverpool.

Reds manager Brendan Rodgers is looking to improve his midfield options and believes that the 22-year-old could be the perfect candidate.

Christian Atsu – Porto

The Reds’ boss, Brendan Rodgers, is looking increasingly likely to complete the cut-price transfer for Porto’s Ghanaian international Christian Atsu after a significant breakthrough in negotiations.

The two clubs are in advanced talks and Liverpool are moving in on a deal that would see the 21-year-old winger sign for as little as £3 million, given that his contract expires next summer, already making it clear that he will not be signing another one.
