Liverpool reportedly scrap plan to play pre-season friendly at Tottenham’s new ground

Liverpool have scrapped plans to play a pre-season game ahead of the 2019/20 campaign at Tottenham’s new stadium, according to the Daily Mail.

They report that because Anfield will play host to three concerts in June, the pitch is being relayed before the start of the season, forcing the Reds to seek alternative venues for pre-season encounters.

Negotiations were reportedly ongoing to organise a game between Liverpool and Napoli at Spurs’ new ground on July 28th, but they have come to an end.

That’s apparently because Liverpool do not feel it would an appropriate arrangement coming so close to such a high-profile and important encounter between the two clubs – tomorrow’s Champions League final in Madrid.

Murrayfield in Edinburgh is now apparently the most likely venue for a friendly on that date.

Pre-season friendlies are now so meticulously planned by the elite clubs that any disruption is unwelcome but Liverpool will hope they can recover from the blow and get their preparations going seamlessly.

There’s no major tournament this summer, which gives clubs ample opportunity to make a flying start to the season and that’s exactly what Liverpool will need to do if they are to run Manchester City so close again – and overtake them.
