Liverpool appear to be in a very good position at the moment.
From the outside looking in, Liverpool are in a very strong position, they’re second in the Premier League and playing very well under Arne Slot.
However, as always, there are a few issues bubbling beneath the surface, and Liverpool have a bit of a problem in terms of player contracts at the moment.
Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah are into the final year of their Liverpool contracts, and speaking on the BBC Planet Premier League Podcast, Brad Friedel has shared his verdict on this situation.
Interestingly, Friedel has compared Liverpool’s situation to Tottenham’s long-standing contract issues with Harry Kane a few years ago.
Ultimately, Tottenham had to sell Kane to Bayern Munich, and Liverpool are at risk of losing some of their best players next summer.

Liverpool have a Harry Kane situation on their hands
Friedel spoke about Liverpool’s contract issues.
“It’s just like Tottenham when they had to deal with Harry Kane. You never know until there’s an offer what is going on behind closed doors. I don’t know the contract status of these players, but at Liverpool I do know that they have good communication between their coaching staff and recruitment staff. So I would imagine they will find deals for the ones they want to stay and they won’t for the ones they want to leave,” Friedel said.
Liverpool’s situation is worse than Tottenham’s
Friedel compares Liverpool’s situation to Tottenham’s with Harry Kane, but there’s an argument to make that this scenario at Anfield is even worse.
Tottenham did lose Kane, yes, but they managed to improve after selling their star striker as they changed their style under Ange Postecoglou.
Meanwhile, it’s hard to see Liverpool doing the same if they lose these three players, all three men are so important to Liverpool’s style under Arne Slot, and it’s not an exaggeration to say they are irreplaceable.
One thing is for sure, Liverpool need to sort these contracts out sooner rather than later.
