Liverpool will reportedly battle it out with Bayern Munich and Ajax for the signing of exciting young defender Sepp van den Berg (Goal).
The precocious 17-year-old has made waves for PEC Zwolle over the past few years and is now seen as one of the Eredivisie’s brightest young talents.
He’s already racked up 22 appearances for Zwolle, with 15 of those coming as league starts.
His development has been overseen by legendary Dutch defender Jaap Stam, who was Zwolle’s manager before agreeing to take over at Feyenoord ahead of 2019/20.
van den Berg, who has a reputation as being a strong tackler (via The Liverpool Echo), will be out of contract next summer, meaning his exit could be sanctioned by Zwolle.
The Reds could be onto a gem with van den Berg.
The hugely talented centre-back is already a commanding presence despite his tender years, and comfortable with the ball at his feet.
Liverpool were loosely linked with a move for Matthijs de Ligt this summer, but perhaps van den Berg can be an alternative.
There is a chance yet that Dejan Lovren could leave the club, and it has been suggested that van den Berg is talented enough to work with the first-team.
