Don Hutchison has claimed that Liverpool will target Kalvin Phillips next year, in conversation with ESPN.

The Reds lost Georginio Wijnaldum to a free transfer in the summer and didn’t bring in a replacement.

Though Curtis Jones has stepped up superbly this season, a player like Phillips would no doubt bolster the Liverpool ranks significantly.

Hutchison says he watched the Leeds star up against Fulham last week, and he “blew me away”.

The former Liverpool ace lauded Phillips for his impressive skill set, and believes the Reds and Manchester United will go in for him.

“I was at Fulham against Leeds last week,” Hutchison told ESPN. “And Kalvin Phillips absolutely blew me away.

“I watched him live. He played as a centre-back and then whenever Leeds had the ball, he stepped into midfield and played as a midfield player.

“His positional sense was amazing. His passing is outrageous. He has the no-look pass. Balls into the front men.

“He’s got a two iron and three iron zinger out to the widemen. He has every pass in the locker.

“Everything about him told me that he’s not going to be at Leeds for much longer.

“There is going to be Liverpool and Man United, all the big clubs are going to want him in the summer.”

Phillips has come through the ranks at Leeds and has prospered under Marcelo Bielsa, earning the nickname “the Yorkshire Pirlo”.

The 25-year-old has made 218 competitive appearances for the Elland Road outfit and has won 17 England caps.

According to the Daily Star, he is valued at around £60million.
