Real Madrid star Federico Valverde has been likened to Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard on numerous occasions, and the midfielder has now had his say on those comparisons.

The Uruguayan is among the most talented midfielders in Europe at the moment. He is one of Real Madrid’s best players, which is why they reportedly rejected a mammoth £86 million transfer offer from Liverpool in the final two days of the summer transfer window.

Federico Valverde responds to Steven Gerrard comparisons

Just a few days ago, Liverpool hero and Uruguay icon Luis Suarez claimed in an interview with Marca that Valverde reminded him of Gerrard, who is arguably the Reds’ greatest ever player.

Now, Valverde has responded to those claims and admitted that he does possess a few similar characteristics to that of the legendary Englishman.

The Uruguayan told Infobae, as quoted by Sportwitness: “It’s spectacular when you are compared to such a player, to a star, a world idol, not just a Liverpool one. It’s amazing.

“I see characteristics of him, obviously, I’m not going to say no, but one always looks out for one self.

“I also want to leave my name and my mark in the world of football, not just Madrid but in the national team.”

Liverpool tabled huge bid to sign Valverde

Liverpool were desperate for a new midfielder in the summer transfer window and were linked with plenty of big names. However, nobody really expected them to make a bid for someone like Valverde.

If Spanish outlet AS are to be believed, that’s exactly what they did.

The report claimed after the end of the summer window that Liverpool offered an eye-watering £86 million to sign the 24-year-old Uruguayan midfielder.

Real Madrid, however, didn’t even consider it as they view Valverde as ‘non-transferable’.
