Liverpool supporters shouldn’t worry about Coutinho joining bitter rivals United yet

Former Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho has been sounded out two Manchester United players for advice over a potential summer switch to Old Trafford, according to the Sunday People, 10/03, page 52.

They report that Coutinho has spoken to two players with whom he is friends to register his interest in a move to the 20-time champions as he misses the Premier League.

Coutinho would reportedly cost around £100m but it remains to be seen whether Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – who looks all set to become the new man in the Old Trafford hotset – wants the Brazilian.

Liverpool supporters would surely not enjoy seeing the man they adored before his departure for Barcelona come back to England at their biggest rivals.

But in truth, that prospect remains a long way off. The sums of money involved and the uncertainty at Old Trafford are just two reasons why, and it also remains to be seen whether Coutinho would ever join his former club’s huge enemies.

And if Barcelona are willing to sell Coutinho, there is absolutely no reason why Liverpool couldn’t throw their hat in the ring and bring the midfielder back to England, at a club he loves and has thrived at in the past.
