Liverpool are reportedly pursuing New York Red Bulls defender Aaron Long before the end of the January window with a potential loan deal in the offing until the end of the current season – and Reds fans have responded on Twitter.
Long, 28, has emerged as a potential option with ESPN claiming that the Reds have identified the 18-time USA international as an option. He has become somewhat of an icon for New York Red Bulls, clocking up 135 appearances for the MLS side.
The defender is out of contract at the end of the year but other reports suggest any kind of move for Long – from Liverpool – will be a three-month loan deal to give Klopp cover for a considerable part of Liverpool’s second half to the season.

It comes after Joel Matip suffered an ankle ligament injury against Tottenham on Thursday night – joining both Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk on the sidelines. Fabinho was also missing against Spurs, which saw Liverpool play Nat Phillips in defence.
Sky Sports claimed back in 2019, amid interest from Southampton and Marseille, that Long has a £4.4million release clause in his current contract with the Red Bulls. It remains to be seen if the Reds can organise a deal before the window ends on Monday.
Liverpool fans have reacted on Twitter to the reports that the Reds are interested in Long, and many feel the decision to sign Long makes sense – given that the best options are unavailable this month.
