Liverpool earned a place in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup with an exciting 7-2 win over League One side Lincoln City as Takumi Minamino and Curtis Jones both netted braces – and fans have discussed Diogo Jota’s cameo role.
Jota, 23, completed a £45million (Telegraph) move to Liverpool last week in a move that came about somewhat out of the blue – following the long-awaited arrival of Spain midfielder Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich.
The Portugal international was not a part of the side that beat Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge on the weekend, but was named among the substitutes on Thursday night as Liverpool travelled to Lincoln to win a place in the next round of the Carabao Cup.

Jones and Minamino both scored twice while Divock Origi, Xherdan Shaqiri and Marko Grujic all got their names on the Liverpool score sheet. Jota entered the fray just before the hour mark, replacing teenager Harvey Elliott.
Though he failed to get his name on the score sheet, Jota looked at home in a Liverpool shirt and showed some nice touches. It remains to be seen if Jota will take part in Liverpool’s clash against Arsenal on Monday night at Anfield.
Liverpool supporters have responded on Twitter to Jota’s cameo role on Thursday, with one fan even claiming that his movement was “similar to Mane”. The reaction overall, though, was somewhat mixed – as one supporter said he was “quiet”.
