Winning silverware is becoming something of a habit for Liverpool as they claimed the UEFA Super Cup to go alongside their Champions League win from June.
Chelsea played their part in an entertaining final but it just wasn’t to be for Frank Lampard’s youngsters who were defeated 5-4 on penalties.
Tammy Abraham was the unfortunate Blues player to miss their spot-kick; Adrian saving with his legs after Liverpool had netted all five of their penalties.

After 120 minutes of action, the scores were level at two apiece. It was Chelsea who struck first, Olivier Giroud finishing off after a quality pass from Christian Pulisic.
Moments into the second half Liverpool were level, however, Sadio Mane restoring parity.
Five minutes into the additional half-an-hour, the Senegalese forward struck again to give Liverpool the advantage.
Chelsea weren’t to be denied, however, and Jorginho sent the game to penalties following a spot-kick that was perhaps fortunate to be given in the first place.
After the shootout victory, Liverpool owner John W Henry took to Twitter, to sum up the victory in one simple word:
American businessman, Henry has been overseeing things at Liverpool since 2012 and arguably appointing Jurgen Klopp was his greatest piece of business.
This latest piece of silverware is perhaps not the most prestigious in world football but winning is great for the mentality of the team.

The last thing Klopp would have wanted would be to lose a final so soon after the euphoria of beating Spurs in the Champions League final.
After a fruitless transfer window which saw some supporters disgruntled that no stellar players were added, this latest success could go a long way towards Liverpool going on a good run to start their Premier League campaign.
