Liverpool stunned as reports confirm bad news for Klopp favourite
Liverpool have been stunned by the news that Thiago Alcantara will miss the team’s next two fixtures. Details of his scan have come back and the prognosis is that he will miss games against Norwich and Brentford.
It’s not clear just yet when the Spaniard will return. The club are awaiting more details from the recent scan, with Thiago being forced out of Saturday’s win over Crystal Palace.
Thiago’s time at Liverpool have been riddled with injuries. Indeed, since he arrived at Anfield several players have been struck down with injuries, much to the dismay of Jurgen Klopp.
The 30-year-old signed for the Reds for £20 million from Bayern Munich. During 2020/21 his campaign was blighted by knocks and he made 35 appearances in all competitions.
Thiago was replaced by Naby Keita at the weekend and he scored a wonderful goal in front of The Kop.
He will be just one of the names in mind to replace Thiago, with Curtis Jones also in contention for a place.
Whoever comes in to fill the void left by Thiago will have big boots to fill. In the last two games, he’s started to showcase the playmaking talents that prompted Liverpool to sign him.
Now, he faces another fight towards full fitness and Liverpool will hope for good news once the full details of the scan emerge.
Thiago injury could bite Liverpool once more
This could spell trouble for Klopp. Last season he saw his title bid derailed due to a horrific run of injuries and history could be repeating itself.
Of course, Virgil van Dijk is still fit but Roberto Firmino missed out at the weekend, whilst Thiago now joins him in the treatment room.
Liverpool didn’t really strengthen in the summer. Ibrahima Konate was the only big-name signing and a lack of squad depth could rear its ugly head once more.
