Liverpool: Striker wanted in Milan; Coutinho in hospital; defender “disgusted” by treatment

Reports in Italy from Calciomercato claim that Jurgen Klopp has already given Daniel Sturridge the green light to depart Anfield in January with AC Milan set to make a move for the England international.

The former Chelsea forward has fallen behind Roberto Firmino in the pecking order at the club, with Klopp unconvinced that Sturridge can fit his system and press as much as he would like. Add in injury concerns, and the Reds are now said to be in a position to cash in on one of their most valuable assets.

Their most valuable asset by far is Brazilian Phillipe Coutinho, who has emerged as a doubt for tomorrow’s clash with Southampton after he was spotted going into Liverpool Spire Hospital for a scan having missed training yesterday having returned from Brazil, claim the Independent.

It is believed that the scan was for a minor injury which is not expected to keep the playmaker out long term, but may be enough to justify resting him this weekend after playing against Argentina and Peru for Brazil over the past week, with Liverpool not wanting to risk losing him long term.

French newspaper Le Parisien claim that exiled defender Mamadou Sakho is ‘disgusted’ by his treatment at the club after Jurgen Klopp opted to banish him to the reserves after a number of disciplinary issues during pre-season having missed the end of last season for suspected doping offences which were found to be incorrect.

Sakho has not played for the club since, though he has been in regular action for the club’s under 23 side with manager Michael Beale, and is expected to put an end to his three year stay on Merseyside in January with a move to another Premier League club or a return to France his most likely options.
