Liverpool: Striker rejects move; battle for Swansea star; left-back troubles continue

Mario Balotelli is reported to have turned down a move to Besiktas, as claimed in the Liverpool Echo. The Echo say that despite being told that he has no Anfield future, the Italian does not want to move to Turkey at what should be the peak of his career.

What is clear is that Balotelli needs a reality check. In what was labelled his chance to save his career on loan at AC Milan last season, he managed just one goal in 20 games, and the few options open to him now seem to be from leagues such as in Turkey, China and the USA. Whilst a move there might not be ideal for the Italian, he may have little choice.

Replacements are already being lined up though, and Jurgen Klopp is said to be preparing to face up to West Ham in the hunt for Swansea striker Andre Ayew, claim the Telegraph. With a price tag of £16 million, he is not the most expensive option for a striker with a proven Premier League record.

It is his wage demands of £75,000 a week which may present a stumbling block. With so many attacking options already at the club Liverpool are unlikely to want to fork out such a hefty wage if they have learnt from the cases of Balotelli and Christian Benteke.

It also seems that any move for a left-back this summer could be abandoned as the Telegraph report that Klopp sees James Milner as a temporary solution with all of his preferred targets unavailable.

After Ben Chilwell signed a new five-year deal at Leicester City, it seems that the Reds would prefer to wait and are in no rush, rather than hurry into an expensive panic buy.

Milner is a versatile option who has filled in at full-back before, and with Alberto Moreno already in the squad, there is no desperate need for a first-choice player. Whilst Jon Flanagan and young Joe Gomez may not be the most motivating of competition for Moreno, it may be a case of making do with what Klopp has until targets become available.

That would also indicate that the Reds are finalising their transfer business for the summer ready for when the season kicks off. Klopp, being a strong believer in team spirit, has previously spoken of the importance of having a squad together as early as possible.
