Thiago has given his dream 5-a-side team in a video posted on Liverpool’s official Twitter account and has included Leeds United star Rodrigo Moreno and a Manchester United player in that side – along with his brother Rafinha.
The Reds summer signing, 29, has managed just five appearances for Liverpool after finally overcoming a knee injury which he sustained during the Merseyside derby following a strong challenge from Everton attacker Richarlison – which saw the latter sent off.
Thiago is back fit and started the last Premier League match against Southampton – lasting the entire 90 minutes. He picked De Gea, a Spain teammate, despite the rivalry between Liverpool and Manchester United. He also picked LA Galaxy’s Jonathan Dos Santos.
Leeds star Rodrigo and Thiago are close after their fathers – ex-Brazil players Adalberto and Mazinho – opened a football school in Spain. He picked Rodrigo, who is also a Spain teammate, in his five-a-side team after stating he would rather pick friends.
“More than the best players, I will always choose the best chemistry and the best friends I have in football,” Thiago said. “Like my brother Rafinha, Rodrigo Moreno who plays for Leeds. Jonathan Dos Santos who plays for La Galaxy in USA and David De Gea.”
While Thiago and Rafinha are yet to share the pitch in the Premier League – with Thiago having joined Liverpool after the Reds beat Leeds 4-3 earlier this season – they are could do so when the two teams meet at Elland Road in April.
If both remain fit, they are likely to combine in Spain’s bid to win Euro 2021 in the summer. £58,000-a-week (Spotrac) Rodrigo has made a decent start to life at Leeds, being used as an attacking midfielder more than just a striker – scoring three goals in 17 outings.
