Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain continued his excellent goalscoring form of late by scoring the winner with his left foot on Tuesday against Genk in the Champions League – and he has been teased following his goal by a Liverpool teammate on Instagram.
The 26-year-old started alongside Divock Origi and Mo Salah up front as Liverpool were tasked with obtaining a comfortable three points. But as Liverpool fans will know, they never do it the easy way in Europe.
Gini Wijnaldum gave Liverpool the lead with a cute flick into the roof of the net but Genk came roaring back, as Mbwana Samatta powered a header home from a corner at the near post. The Ox, though, scored his fourth goal in four games.
Indeed, the England cap boosted his chances of starting against Manchester City this weekend by swivelling inside the penalty area before lashing home an effort from 15 yards. Andy Robertson teased the versatile star on Instagram.
TBR’s view – Does Oxlade-Chamberlain desvere Euro 2020 spot?
On this current form, it is clear as day at that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is one of the best English attacking midfielders – as well as offering quality from both midfield, out wide and even as a number 10.
The likes of James Maddison is in stunning form, while Dele Alli is returning to his best at Tottenham. But The Ox is adding goals to his game, with the player himself admitting that he has not fully returned to 100% fitness.
If he continues his stunning form and regains a place in Klopp’s starting line-up, Oxlade-Chamberlain deserves a place in Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2020 squad next summer.
