Liverpool star Diogo Jota is on fire at the moment after netting a hat-trick against Atalanta in the Champions League on Tuesday night – and the confident attacker has sent a warning to Manchester City ahead of Sunday’s showdown.

Jota, 23, has starred in red since swapping Wolves for Liverpool – scoring an impressive seven goals in 10 games. Jurgen Klopp prepared for Sunday’s huge clash with the perfect preparation, a 5-0 win over Atalanta in which Jota netted three times.

Sadio Mane and Mo Salah also got their names on the score sheet. Now, focus switches to Sunday when Liverpool take on Pep Guardiola’s men – who beat Olympiakos 3-0 on Tuesday. Liverpool will be without numerous senior players.

Virgil van Dijk’s absence has been worsened by injuries to Joel Matip and Fabinho. Thiago and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain remain out, but Jota is confident. He has sent a warning to Manchester City, as per BBC Sport.

Well five goals, that doesn’t happen so often to score five in one game. The clean sheet as well if we can keep a clean sheet against City we will win the game,” Jota confidently claimed.

TBR’s view – Jota or Firmino against Manchester City?

Jota has surely made it clear to Klopp that he must start against Manchester City on Sunday. Not just his goals, but his movement, speed and link-up play was excellent against one of Italy’s best in-form sides.

Roberto Firmino offers enormous creativity in the final third, but having a bigger goal threat in Jota – who is in the form of his life – is surely too hard to look past. Jota deserves to start against Manchester City.
