Liverpool star Andrew Robertson has admitted that he has no interest in seeing Lionel Messi arrive in the Premier League, given his club won’t be the ones signing him.

Speaking to Goal, the Scottish left-back made the admission when pressed on the possibility of Manchester City signing the Barcelona and Argentina star.

Messi is looking increasingly likely to leave the Nou Camp but Robertson isn’t keen on seeing him in the Premier League, admitting he would rather him stay in Spain.

“From a completely selfish point of view I hope it doesn’t happen, hopefully, he stays at Barca. I think Liverpool have ruled out that we are going to sign him, so for me, I don’t want him anywhere near the Premier League and hopefully, it stays that way, but we’ll wait and see what happens with that.”

Robertson has quickly developed into one of the finest full-backs in the world but has conceded that playing against the Barcelona wizard is a different matter altogether.

“I’ve played against him twice and it’s the hardest games I’ve ever played, so you need to stay on the watch against him at all times, he can pop up out of nowhere. He’s a fantastic player, probably the best to ever play the game but hopefully, he stays in Spain for me.”

The saga surrounding Messi continues to change on a daily basis. City are expected to make a big move for him, however, reports in the last few days suggest Barca are going to try and keep their record goalscorer.

In fairness to Robertson here, at least he is being honest. He does concede it would be great to see Messi in the Premier League but he is right in the fact that he wouldn’t be wanting to face him regularly.

No defender in the world would want to deal with Messi, so Robertson is simply saying what all PL defenders will be thinking.
