Aston Villa star John McGinn was handed the captaincy as he earned his 26th cap for Scotland on Wednesday night in a 1-0 win over Czech Republic – and he received praise on Instagram from a Liverpool player and Manchester United’s Scott McTominay.
The 25-year-old midfielder has become a crucial part of his Scotland’s side over the past few seasons, especially since swapping Hibernian for Aston Villa in the summer of 2018. Before last night, he has scored seven goals in 25 Scotland caps.
With Robertson missing from Scotland’s side on Wednesday night, Scotland took on Czech Republic in the Nations League at Hampden Park. Newcastle United’s Ryan Fraser scored the only goal of the game in the sixth minute.
The in-form Lyndon Dykes did brilliantly before squeezing the ball into Fraser, who finished superbly. McGinn posted on Instagram, underlining his pride at wearing the armband for Scotland on Wednesday night.
McGinn lasted 79 minutes, playing alongside Celtic midfielder Callum McGregor and Rangers ace Ryan Jack – a duo who will go head to head on Saturday in the first Old Firm derby of the season.
In response to McGinn wearing the armband and his post on Instagram, Manchester United star McTominay and official Scotland captain Robertson responded – reacting to McGinn’s upload.
