Liverpool are interested in signing highly rated Italian midfielder Nicolo Barella, according to Transfer Market Web.
The Reds are apparently one of a number of clubs curious about bringing in the Cagliari playmaker, with Chelsea, AC Milan, Napoli, Roma and Internazionale all named.
Barella has been a mainstay for Cagliari this season, making 18 appearances in Serie A.
He has caught the eye with a string of good performances that have showcased his technical ability. He has also demonstrated a knack of getting stuck in despite his short stature.
Barella is very much an all-round midfield player, meaning that if Liverpool were to sign him this month, then one man might be fearing the worst.
Keita may crumble
Barella is a similar kind of player to Naby Keita.
The Guinea midfielder has struggled to get to grips in his first season in English football so far.
He started brightly, but has failed to show consistency and has been in and out of the Jurgen Klopp’s starting XI.
The £52.75 million signing from RB Leipzig (The Liverpool Echo) is now behind Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Gini Wijnaldum, Fabinho and Xherdan Shaqiri in the pecking order at Anfield, and any addition of Barella could make life even more difficult for him.
Arguably Barella would be the most similar to him out of any of those players if he signed, which could seriously dent his hopes of become an undisputed starter.
