Liverpool sign Ragnar Klavan - Twitter reacts
With a defensive crisis on the horizon, the signing of Ragnar Klavan in a £4 million deal with FC Augsburg was not the signing that Liverpool fans have been dreaming of all summer.
The Estonia captain does provide a high quality back-up though, and has been brought in after injuries to Mamadou Sakho and Joe Gomez, with Joel Matip having picked up a knock and Tiago Illori called up for the Olympics just after Kolo Toure and Martin Skrtel left the club.
A title winner in Holland, and a visitor to Anfield with Augsburg last season, the left-footed central defender can also deputise as left-back, where the Reds have been looking for cover given the questionable form of Alberto Moreno.
Whilst most will not have heard of the defender, he has a reputation for being hard as nails and strong in the air, which will provide some much needed steel to the LFC back-line. Klavan is also a player well known to Jurgen Klopp, and joins the squad in time to travel on the club’s tour of the US in the coming weeks.
This is how Twitter reacted to the news…
Some were delighted by the bargain buy and his reputation…
Klavan and Matip for a combined fee of 4 million! What a bargain

Ragnar Klavan is a man who will steal your girl, play a 40 yard long ball across the pitch and then destroy you with a crunching slide tackle

Ragnar Klavan sounds more like a Game Of Thrones character than a Premier League centre back. #lfc

Ragnar Klavan sounds like the name of someone who fights in an underground UFC league and eats glass for breakfast

But maybe they should…
Comparisons were drawn…
Completely fine with Ragnar Klavan. Maybe he becomes a Kyrgiakos type or a better Kolo Toure. I'll take that all day.
