Liverpool sign Ragnar Klavan – Twitter reacts

With a defensive crisis on the horizon, the signing of Ragnar Klavan in a £4 million deal with FC Augsburg was not the signing that Liverpool fans have been dreaming of all summer.

The Estonia captain does provide a high quality back-up though, and has been brought in after injuries to Mamadou Sakho and Joe Gomez, with Joel Matip having picked up a knock and Tiago Illori called up for the Olympics just after Kolo Toure and Martin Skrtel left the club.

A title winner in Holland, and a visitor to Anfield with Augsburg last season, the left-footed central defender can also deputise as left-back, where the Reds have been looking for cover given the questionable form of Alberto Moreno.

Whilst most will not have heard of the defender, he has a reputation for being hard as nails and strong in the air, which will provide some much needed steel to the LFC back-line. Klavan is also a player well known to Jurgen Klopp, and joins the squad in time to travel on the club’s tour of the US in the coming weeks.
