Liverpool could swoop for Christian Pulisic again to solve January woes

Liverpool have a problem in January, with both Mo Salah and Sadio Mane set to miss up to a month thanks to their commitments in the African Cup of Nations.

No matter what anyone says, this is a big blow for the Reds. We saw last season at the opposite end of the pitch how losing key players can derail a season. Make no bones about it, Jurgen Klopp will be sweating over the loss of Salah and Mane in January.

Reports have suggested that Klopp won’t actually make any moves to bring in new players. Instead, he will go with what he has. However, this could prove to be a mistake, especially with the title race looking so close this year.

But one name who could help Klopp and Liverpool with the Salah and Mane situation is Chelsea star, Christian Pulisic. The Reds have liked the American for some time, and were one of the clubs linked with a move for the winger earlier in 2021.

And with Pulisic apparently on the chopping block at Chelsea again, Liverpool could fancy their chances again.

Christian Pulisic to Liverpool?

The Daily Star has reported that Pulisic is unhappy at Chelsea and is seeking a way out. His minutes have been cut this season, although in fairness to Thomas Tuchel, the winger has been injured.

Liverpool, though, could make big use of a fully fit Christian Pulisic. Salah and Mane are huge losses in wide areas, and the Chelsea man, as we know, can play both positions comfortably.

Pulisic was a key man for Chelsea last season, too. It isn’t like he could be moving on as he isn’t good enough. More the fact that he is just out of favour in a very, very good Blues team. Indeed, he started seven of the final eight games last term, and came on in the Champions League final.

The issue, of course, is if Chelsea would even entertain the idea of allowing a player to join Liverpool. In reality, it’s probably a long shot at best.

But with premium wingers hard to come by, and Liverpool losing two at the same time, another bid for Pulisic shouldn’t be discounted.
