There has already been some talk about Liverpool potentially signing Dayot Upamecano of RB Leipzig.
The French central defender has been mentioned by a number of outlets (Sunday World included) as a possible replacement for Virgil van Dijk.
The need for a marquee defensive additions appears to be even greater now, with Joe Gomez suffering a knee injury on England duty, which the Independent have reported is feared to be season-ending.

The full extent of the issue has not yet been disclosed, but there are fears it is serious.
Upamecano would certainly be a coup for the Reds, but whether it is feasible is another thing.
The player only signed a new in the summer, and the impressive 22-year-old might be too expensive.
It could therefore be in Liverpool’s interests to target Upamecano’s teammate and fellow countryman Ibrahima Konate, who is supposedly on Arsenal’s radar and has a £44 million release clause (Sport Bild).
TBR’s View – An Upamecano alternative
Upamecano is the man to have grabbed headlines for Leipzig in recent times, but Konate is just as impressive if not more so in some fans’ eyes.

He has had his injury problems in recent times, but according to the Bundesliga’s official website, the 21-year-old can do it all and make it look ‘easy’ in the process.
“Whether it be in terms of positioning, sticking tight to the striker, intercepting passes, tackling or building from the back, Konate cannot just do it all, he makes it look easy,” they say.
The feature, written last season, actually likens Konate to van Dijk which has got to make him worth a look for Liverpool, ith Upamecano likely to cost a fair bit more.
