It’s no secret that Liverpool’s problems in defence this season have played a huge role in their dramatic drop off from last year.
If you asked Reds supporters which position do they want the Merseyside club to strengthen in the summer, surely most would answer with centre-back.
Jurgen Klopp’s squad needs the arrival of a top centre-half to provide depth, as well as for serious competition when their injured players return.
One player that would tick all the boxes for Liverpool is Inter Milan’s Milan Skriniar and this summer they should consider him, especially if reports about him are true.
According to the Daily Express, Tottenham will reignite interest in the defender this summer after previously wanting to sign him from Italian giants Inter.
Intriguingly, the report adds that he would cost around £25million.
If Skriniar is available for £25million this summer like the report suggests, then trying to sign him should be an absolute no-brainer for every top club out there, including Liverpool.
He’s a commanding centre-back that has been a nailed-on starter for Antonio Conte’s Inter, who currently sit top of Serie A charging towards the league title.
Signing the 26-year-old at the quoted price would be daylight robbery, and the bargain of the summer transfer window. He’s quick, strong, intelligent and comfortable on the ball.
His contract at the San Siro does expire in 2023 which perhaps may play a role in his valuation, but it would be a massive surprise if he’s allowed to leave for such a minimal transfer fee.
Liverpool do need to throw their name into the hat though for the Slovenia international, as he would plug a major hole at Anfield and it’s easy to picture him suiting the Premier League if he moved to England at some stage in his career.
