Liverpool will hope the 2019/20 campaign can resume and be completed as soon as possible with play currently suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Reds are 25 clear of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League and are desperately craving their first league title for nearly 30 years.
It has been a terrific couple of years for Jurgen Klopp’s team. Last season they finished second with 97 points and lifted the Champions League.
This time around they have dropped points in just two of their 29 league games and have been the standout side.
Plans might already be in place for one the league title is lifted and the remaining games of the campaign could see some youngsters earn an opportunity.
If Liverpool win their next two games they will be crowned champions with seven games still to play. Klopp shouldn’t waste the chance to look at some of his youngsters and hand them some first-team experience.
A smart idea would be to unleash Caoimhin Kelleher in goal, especially if Alisson is still struggling with the injury he picked up last month.
The 21-year-old has made his first-team debut this season in the Carabao Cup and there would be nothing to lose by utilising him in the closing stages of the campaign.
Adrian’s mistake against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League highlights that he isn’t a long-term solution, whilst Andy Lonergan will be leaving in the summer.
Kelleher has served his time with the club’s academy ranks and handing him a chance to impress would tell Klopp a lot about his quality.
Of course, there is no saying that he will be the first-choice anytime soon but he might prove himself capable of being Alisson’s backup next season.
Klopp has been a revelation since arriving at Liverpool and his next positive step should be to hand the young Irishman a chance to shine during the latter stages of this season.
