Liverpool are supposedly interested in signing Timo Werner.

The Reds were first linked to the player last month, with Abendzeitung claiming Jurgen Klopp’s team were a ‘serious competitor’ alongside Bayern in the race for the forward.

In new developments, RB Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff has applied pressure on Werner to sign a new deal. The player is out of contract in 2020, and Mintzlaff doesn’t want him entering his final year, meaning a sale could well be on the horizon.

Werner is hot property at the moment having scored 11 Bundesliga goals this season.

He has quickly reminded everyone of his frightening ability following a dismal World Cup with Germany.

Liverpool could offer Sturridge

If Liverpool are truly keen on Werner, then perhaps it could be within their interests to offer Daniel Sturridge as part of the deal.

The England international has been a bit-part player since Klopp pitched up at Anfield in 2015. He’s also struggled a lot with various injuries.

Sturridge will become a free agent at the end of the current season, but according to The Daily Mail, the club want him to stay and a new deal could be offered.

That has come fairly out of the blue, with many anticipating he will move on at the end of the season after seven years at Anfield.

Many wouldn’t want to see him go but if it meant securing Werner then surely most fans would be happy with that.

Leipzig likely have no current interest in Sturridge, but if they knew they had to lose Werner due to his contract situation then the Englishman’s acquisition may soften the blow – he’s still a very good striker.

Explosive Werner would be an investment for the future and is essentially a much younger version of Sturridge – he is great technically and can also play anywhere across the frontline.
