Liverpool should consider entering Zagadou hunt amid defender shortage

Liverpool contine to be linked with central defenders from across Europe, with Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez both long-term injury absences.

The Reds are down to the bare bones at the moment, with Jurgen Klopp being forced to use Fabinho alongside Joel Matip at centre-half.

Youngsters Rhys Williams and Nat Phillips have both been drafted in to cover in recent weeks, but the pair have very little first-team experience.

The winter transfer window will soon be open, and all eyes will be on Liverpool to see if they go in for somebody.

The likes of Dayot Upamecano and Kalidou Koulibaly, both linked in recent weeks, might be too expensive for a mid-season transfer.

One man who Liverpool should perhaps be looking at, is the Borussia Dortmund defender Dan-Axel Zagadou, who is currently being linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur (90min).

The French colossus has yet to play in 2020/21 having been injured, but was very impressive last term for the Bundesliga outfit, especially just before lockdown.

TBR’s View – Klopp should raid old club

Left-footer Zagadou has amazing potential, and could realise it by moving to Anfield.

The aerially dominant 21-year-old already has the imposing 6ft 5in frame and a decent turn of pace to boot, making him a truly fearsome opponent for strikers.

He is still quite raw at this stage of his career, but under a world-class coach he could be frightening in a few years.

One gets the feeling that Klopp – as he has done with many other players before – could turn Zagadou into a superstar.
