Liverpool: Shock Van Dijk call; target to leave his club; ex-winger aims for return

Jurgen Klopp is rumoured to have decided that the club should not make a move for Southampton central defender Virgil Van Dijk despite his £25 million release clause as he believes that he already has sufficient cover in that area of the field with Joel Matip and Joe Gomez returning from injury, say the Daily Mail.

The Dutch international has caught the attention of a number of top Premier League clubs and is believed to have been scouted by the Reds for over two months but a move could now seem unlikely.

Reported Liverpool target Riechedly Bazoer has been left out of Ajax’s squad for their Europa League clash with Standard Liege after manager Peter Bosz decided to drop the midfielder as he confirmed:

“After talks with Riechedly I assume there is a big chance that he is not with this team anymore after the winter break. Against Standard I want to play young players so they can get used to this international level.”

The 20-year-old already has 50 first team appearances under his belt despite his young age, and now looks set to depart Holland with Arsenal, Barcelona and Juventus among the other teams said to be monitoring him.

Former Liverpool winger Harry Kewell has revealed that as he begins his managerial career with Watford under 23s, his long term ambition is to take the reigns in the Anfield dugout. He said:

“My ultimate goal is Liverpool, [but] you’ve got to learn your trade. When you’re starting out do you start out working your way through the reserve team, go out on loan and start at a lower level? Or do you just get thrown into the deep end and play in the Premier League? You don’t know unless you get thrown in there. I’m a big believer in sink or swim. I’m a big dreamer. You might as well go to the top. You want to dream big, you dream big. As far as me, I don’t know. I just worry about my coaching. I’ll just keep working and working until I get my opportunity.”
