Liverpool had a pretty quiet summer transfer window.
Federico Chiesa and Giorgi Mamardashvili were the only signings, though, Arne Slot was keen to bring in a midfielder.
Slot wanted Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi but the Spaniard rejected the chance to make the switch to Anfield.
So, with that said, it’s thought Liverpool will return to the market in Janaury to sign a deep-lying playmaker.
They’re already keeping tabs on an England international…

Liverpool interested in signing Angel Gomes
According to the Liverpool Echo, Liverpool scouts were in attendance during England’s win against Finland last week.
It’s believed they were there to watch Lille midfielder Angel Gomes, who put in an impressive display on his full debut for Lee Carsley’s side.
Gomes has also attracted interest from Tottenham and Newcastle in recent weeks, so competition is expected to be rife.
The former Manchester United star, who’s been labelled a ‘superstar’ per Planet Football, is out of contract next summer and is expected to be available for a discounted fee in January.
What Roy Keane said about Angel Gomes
Manchester United legend Roy Keane, speaking on ITV, was impressed by what he saw from Gomes during the international break.
“You know what, the first you thing you look at was he looked comfortable out there,” Keane said.
“Obviously, the game, you could say it was dead and buried, but he looked comfortable out on the pitch.
“He looked comfortable in possession, he looked like he belonged out there, he’s had to go away and leave Manchester United, a big club, to go out for experience and get regular football.
“His body language as well, he doesn’t look giddy; some players look a bit nervous, but he looks comfortable and he looked full of beans, as you’d expect,” the 53-year-old added.
