After several very public falling outs with manager Jose Mourinho, the Express claim that Jurgen Klopp is eyeing a move for left-back Luke Shaw as an upgrade on Alberto Moreno and the out of position James Milner on the left hand side of defence. Shaw is clearly struggling to get along with Mourinho and whilst a move seems unlikely, stranger things have happened.
Shaw would certainly be an improvement on the current options in the squad, but it would likely be a very expensive move to take the former Southampton youngster from Manchester to Merseyside.
That move could be funded by the sale of Phillipe Coutinho to Barcelona as the Mirror claim that the Spanish club are preparing a move for the Brazilian to reunite him with close friend Neymar, but they also state that Coutinho has no buy out clause in his current Anfield contract, putting Liverpool in a strong negotiating position.
The former Inter Milan playmaker has been in inspirational form so far this season so interest is to be expected, but Jurgen Klopp will be desperate to keep hold of the star as Liverpool try to shake off the tag of a so-called “selling club”.
The Express also report that Klopp is watching Bayer Leverkusen’s commanding central defender Jonathan Tah as a potential option to provide competition for Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip. The 20-year-old is one of Germany’s most promising young players and has now earned his first two caps for his country.
Tah would not come cheap, with Leverkusen having spent £7 million to sign him from Wolfsburg just last year, but Klopp is reportedly hoping to persuade bosses to make a January move for Tah to give the Reds a boost and strength in depth as they mount a title challenge.
