Liverpool could make an audacious move for Arsenal’s 23-year-old winger Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, claim the Telegraph. Both Jordan Henderson and Adam Lallana gave Jurgen Klopp glowing references from international duty with the Arsenal man, who has scored six and recorded six assists so far this campaign.
The winger would be a good substitute for Sadio Mane and is said to be available for around £20 million to £25 million with his contract set to expire in the summer of 2018, meaning that his lack of improvement may open Arsene Wenger up to the idea of selling the ex-Southampton player.
An alternative could be Christian Pulisic, the 18-year-old Dortmund and United States winger who was subject to interest from the Reds in the summer, but when quizzed on his future he told the US Soccer Facebook page on a live chat:
“I think with soccer, you never really know what’s going to happen in your career — that’s the beauty of it. But right now, I’m with Dortmund and very happy. I’m earning my spot and working hard for that team.”
Pulisic has been continually linked with a move to Anfield since the start of the summer transfer window but it now seems that his future will be in Germany with his current club.
Jurgen Klopp has also spoken to laud his star man Philippe Coutinho ahead of the Brazilian’s return to first team action, which is expected to take place against Manchester City on New Year’s Eve. He told the Liverpool Echo:
“In 2016 he has made the next step for sure. He has been very consistent. I think our style of play fits really well with him. We had a few talks about it. Of course with Phil’s skills, everyone wants to give him the ball and wait for something special to happen. Then you think ‘oh no, don’t shoot again’. But if I could shoot like he could shoot then I would try it all the time. I’d get up in the morning and just shoot the ****ing ball around in the garden or something. It’s outstanding how good he is.”
Coutinho has excelled in Klopp’s new 4-3-3 system and has been in fine form this campaign.
