Liverpool full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold broke the record for most assists by a defender in the Premier League era, The Evening Standard reports.
Leighton Baines and Andy Hinchcliffe were the joint holders of this record. But going into the final day, Alexander-Arnold and his Liverpool team-mate Andrew Robertson were both on 11.
At that point, it was a four-way record. But Alexander-Arnold blew Robertson, Baines and Hinchcliffe out of the water with a masterclass on the final day of the season.
Liverpool were not able to clinch the title on the final day due to Manchester City’s win over Brighton. But the Reds still did their job; they won 2-0 over Wolves at Anfield.

Alexander-Arnold set up the opener early on in the game. Jordan Henderson’s pass found the 20-year-old on the right flank and his low cross deflected into the path of Sadio Mane, who found the net.
Late in the game, despite the title heading to Manchester, Alexander-Arnold produced a wonderful cross from deep which Mane headed in.
The England international went two clear on 13 assists for the season, meaning he is now the outright holder of this Premier League record.
This is a measure of just how talented Alexander-Arnold is. The sky is the limit as his progress continues to rocket. Next season could bring even more success for the local lad.
