Liverpool moved to the summit of the Premier League yesterday thanks to a 2-1 win over Fulham at Craven Cottage.
The Reds secured victory thanks to goals from Sadio Mane and James Milner.
Yesterday’s game represented the seventh in succession in all competitions that Mo Salah has failed to find the net.
The prolific goalscorer has 20 in total for the campaign but has been stuck in a rut of late.
Last season during Salah’s maiden campaign back in the Premier League he smashed 44 goals in all competitions.
That doesn’t seem a likely target this season for the Egyptian and it is Mane who is quickly becoming Liverpool’s star attraction.
The Senegalese forward joined Salah on 17 Premier League goals in the win against Fulham.
Salah has come in for some criticism from some football fans this season but he hasn’t done an awful lot wrong.
Quite simply, opposition teams have become wise to the threat which he poses.
Salah’s record against the top teams this season is abysmal.
It is no coincidence that all the better teams that have come up against Salah have placed two, if not three, defenders on him in an attempt to stop him playing.
In turn that has given Mane the freedom to take over the goalscoring mantle and ease the pressure on his team-mate.
If Salah wasn’t scoring and Liverpool were losing an issue would present itself.
Instead, the man paid £100k-a-week by Liverpool, according to Spotrac, has come of age and stood up to be counted when it has really mattered.
