According to reports in Bild, Liverpool could be set to activate the £21.5 million release clause in Julian Brandt’s contract.
The German is currently at Bayer Leverkusen, who are in danger of not qualifying for the Champions League this season. They are currently seven points off fourth in the Bundesliga.
Should Brandt’s current team miss out, a clause in his contract will allow him to leave for £21.5 million.
This news could be of interest to Rangers supporters.
Ryan Kent is currently on loan at Ibrox and Steven Gerrard would desperately like to keep him. The 22-year-old has netted six goals and claimed nine assists this season for the Gers.
It has previously been thought that Liverpool rate their academy prospect highly. At this stage, however, it remains to be seen what the future holds for Kent under Jurgen Klopp.
Surely if the Reds do land Brandt, a winger, it will push Kent even further down the pecking order. That could be good news for Gerrard and Rangers.
The Liverpool Echo has previously reported that the Reds want more than £12 million for the fleet-footed winger. If Brandt is secured, however, they might loosen that stance somewhat.
Kent has adhered himself to Rangers supporters with a string of impressive displays. Keeping him around Ibrox would enhance their silverware prospects next season.
Light Blues boss Gerrard will probably be watching the Liverpool movement for Brandt with relative intrigue in the coming months.
