Liverpool round-up: Teen sensation set for £10million move; striker continues to be linked with exit; Lovren returns

The Sun claim that Jurgen Klopp is preparing to sanction a £10 million move to bring Nottingham Forest’s teen sensation Ben Brereton to Merseyside as Liverpool have stolen a march in the race for the 17-year-old, who has scored three and assisted two in nine games in the Championship to date.

The striker, who was prolific at youth level for the second tier club, now appears to have established himself in the first team and could make an exit in the summer against the club’s wishes, with Forest keen to hold onto the Englishman unless a substantial offer is made by a Premier League club.

He could represent a long-term alternative to Daniel Sturridge as the Daily Star claim that West Ham will look to cash in on interest from China in former Liverpool striker Andy Carroll to fund a move for the injury prone forward who seems likely to leave Anfield this summer.

Sturridge, suffering from a hip injury at present, has struggled to nail down a regular starting spot under Jurgen Klopp in his 4-3-3 system this season, and could consider his future if he receives an offer that would allow him to become the main man once again as he previously was for the Reds.

Another player affected by injury recently was Dejan Lovren, but ESPN say that the Croatian played 75 minutes as the club’s under 23 side saw off Chelsea with a 2-0 victory, watched by manager Jurgen Klopp. Under 23’s boss Mike Garrity said:

“He was fine. I think he could have completed the full game if he wanted to. But we were happy to get to 75 and he was happy with that. He looked strong and his authority and experience was really nice for the boys out there. [I found out he would be playing] this morning. It is what it is. But it’s nice for him because he obviously wants to get back in the frame and wants to put himself in front of the manager and tell him he’s fit. He’s obviously showed that.”

Lovren now seems to be close to overcoming a knee injury having seen a specialist in Germany and will have enjoyed getting game time as Harry Wilson and Trent Alexander-Arnold found the net.
