In a surprise headline, French outlet Telefoot say that Paris Saint-Germain could make a move for Liverpool fan favourite Philippe Coutinho and believe that £87 million (€100 million) could be enough to secure a deal for the playmaker. The Reds are determined to hold on to their man, but these reports seem to indicate that they have named their price.
Coutinho is set to play in a more advanced attacking midfield role centrally next season, rather than on the left side of a front three as in 2016/17. The club have been ambitious in the transfer market to date and that may be enough to persuade the magician that he should remain on Merseyside, though the finances of PSG are also likely to appeal.
One such ambitious transfer target is Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. The Times report that there has been a twist in their pursuit of the Arsenal midfielder as he has rejected a contract offer from the Gunners, despite being offered a pay rise. The England international is desperate for regular first team football and is prepared to run down his contract to make a move away.
Liverpool are believed to have had an enquiry quickly and directly rejected by the London club and they could now be forced to wait 12 months and bring the former Southampton man northwards on a free transfer. However, Arsene Wenger and co. may instead be forced to sell in order to capitalise on the potential transfer revenue.
Another midfield target, according to Italian outlet Cittaceleste, is Lazio’s Lucas Biglia. At first, it seems unlikely that the Reds would rival Manchester United given that at 31 years of age he is far from the typical signing that the club have looked to make in recent seasons.
Despite that, the Argentine holding midfielder is thought of as one of the most reliable and experienced holding midfielders in Serie A, and he could provide a cheaper alternative if a move for Naby Keita collapses in this summer transfer window.
