Liverpool round-up: Moves made for defender; Van Dijk talks revealed; mystic tweet from Salah’s agent

The Sun report that young and versatile defender Joe Gomez is subject to interest from two Premier League outfits and one SPL club. They say that Brighton, Bournemouth and Celtic are all monitoring the ex-Charlton man, with Brendan Rodgers hoping to be reunited with the player he brought to Anfield.

Eddie Howe is believed to be particularly keen at Bournemouth and is hoping to sign him either on loan or for a £10 million fee. It seems likely that Gomez’s future could depend upon how Liverpool fare in their efforts to add to their defence in the rest of the transfer window.

He could have been joined in defence by Southampton defender Virgil Van Dijk, but that now seem unlikely after the club withdrew their interest. Now, Yahoo Sport claim to have the details of why the club were forced to apologise. Despite it being against Premier League rules to hold talks with a player without his club’s permission, it was clearly the case.

The reports indicate that personal terms had already been agreed with the Dutch international and that manager Jurgen Klopp had met and spoken with Van Dijk to show him video clips of how he would fit into the Liverpool side. Now, it seems that the Saints may try to hold onto him for another year at least.

In another twist in an ongoing transfer saga, a cryptic tweet from the agent of Roma winger Mohamed Salah has created cause for concern for Reds fans as talks remain without progress for the Egyptian.

Ramy Abbas Issa’s client seems to be one of Liverpool’s top targets this summer and the club appeared to move early on to try to bring him to Anfield. However, the lack of progress over the past few weeks may jeopardise a potential deal.
