Sky in Italy report that Liverpool are close to agreeing a £35 million deal for Roma winger Mohamed Salah after Jurgen Klopp met the Egyptian last week as the two parties came to an agreement over the personal terms of a contract at Anfield, with just the details of a transfer fee left to be agreed between the clubs.

The 24-year-old scored 19 goals and made 15 assists in a sensational season where he made 41 appearances for the side from the Italian capital as he has rebuilt his career after a disastrous spell at Chelsea, where he scored just two goals in 19 games before being shipped out.

In more exciting transfer news, the Times claim that Southampton defender Virgil Van Dijk wants to move to Anfield this summer. The Reds are prepared to match Manchester City’s offer with a £200,000 per week contract over five years in an attempt to lure him to Merseyside, rather than join forces with Pep Guardiola, and are hoping to reach an agreement with Southampton over a £60 million fee.

The Dutch international is one of the club’s top transfer targets this summer and he is reportedly hoping to team up with Jurgen Klopp as he is keen to work with the German to take his career to the next level, with his collective vision of a team and Liverpool’s history and fan base also believed to be factors in persuading him to choose the club over the Citizens.

Given these two pieces of news, it’s clear to see why Jurgen Klopp is confident about the chances of his team next season with a huge amount of optimism about his summer transfer dealings. The German told the club website:

“I know that we are good already but we have so much space to improve – I love it. Being really good and feeling there’s not a lot more possible, that’s still OK but you think how can you keep this? We can really improve. That’s what I’m really looking forward to… I’m really optimistic for our future, not because I’m crazy but only because I know what we have, I know what we will get, I know what we can get, and I know that we really have a super bunch of people – knowledge, character – not just the players, all around.”

With young striker Dominic Solanke the only signing confirmed so far, it would seem that Liverpool fans can expect more signings in the coming weeks as they gear up to return to Champions League football next season.
